England announced 17-man squad for Two Tests against India

England have announced a 17-man squad for the first two matches of the upcoming Test series against India.

Archer, who returned to action for Sussex in the T20 Blast last Sunday, is not available for a return to Test cricket as he is avoiding Test cricket due to an elbow problem.

England head coach Chris Silverwood said: “The home Test series against India is one of the most important for Red Ball and it will definitely be a very tough five-match series.”  “India is a quality team that has delivered results and demonstrated its ability away from home.

We are expecting a very tough series and we have chosen our strongest team.Ben Stokes, who recently won the ODI series against Pakistan not only 3-0 but also captained the team in the series.

Ben Stokes returned to the Test squad after missing a two-match series against New Zealand.  Sam Korn and Jose Butler also returned to the Test squad like Johnny Barstow.”The return of all-rounders Ben Stokes and Sam Korn provides balance, which has given us a formula that has been successful in Test cricket.

With the return of Joss and Johnny to the team, we have added more experience and quality.  What is needed is against the second best team in the world.
